JORGE MASSIAS GOMEZ NAMED SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR

WARNER-TAMERLANE PUBLISHING CORP. HONORED AS PUBLISHER OF THE YEAR

Eduardo 'Teddy' Bautista, Executive President of SGAE, Presented With Special Achievement Award

BMI named "Mi Sangre Prisionera," written by Enrique Valencia and published by Tigres Del Norte Ediciones Musicales, Latin Song of the Year; Jorge Massias Gómez (SACM) was named Songwriter of the Year; and Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. was named Latin Publisher of the Year at the performing rights organization's fifth annual Latin Music Awards presentation in Coral Gables, Florida. The ceremony honored top Latin songwriters and music publishers at a 300-person gala dinner at the Country Club Ballroom of the Biltmore Hotel.

BMI President and CEO Frances W. Preston hosted the ceremonies at which Citations of Achievement were given to the writers and publishers of the 50 Latin songs most performed on American radio and television during the eligibility period of July 1, 1996 through June 30, 1997. The evening was highlighted by the presentation of a special Citation of Achievement to Eduardo "Teddy" Bautista, Executive President of Spanish performing rights organization SGAE, for his contributions to the international growth of Latin music. Bautista was also honored earlier in the week by MIDEM Latin America and Caribbean as their 1998 Man of the Year.

Enrique Valencia's hit "Mi Sangre Prisionera," recorded by Los Tigres Del Norte, was the most performed song during the eligibility period and won Song of the Year designation.

Jorge Massias Gómez, a member of the Mexican performing rights organization SACM, was named Songwriter of the Year after receiving 3 Citations of Achievement tonight, the most for one writer. Gomez wrote "Juguete," "Te Aprovechas" (both recorded by Grupo Límite) and "Nube Viajera" recorded by Alejandro Fernández.

Other songwriters receiving multiple awards during the ceremony were Kiko Cibrián and Kiko Man ("Cómo Es Posible Que A Mi Lado" and "Dame"); and José Alfredo Jiménez Sandoval ("Me Equivoqué Contigo" and "Para Morir Iguales").

Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. received its first Latin Publisher of the Year designation, representing eight of the award winning songs for its companies Warner-Tamerlane and Rightsong Music, Inc. In addition, a number of other publishers were honored with multiple awards including Amsedel Publishing, De Luna Publishing Co., Gary Hobbs Music, EMI-Blackwood Music, Inc., peermusic, Songs of PolyGram International, Inc., Sony-ATV Songs LLC and Tigres Del Norte Ediciones Musicales.
